Arthur "Bart" Paul Bartmess, 94, of Wallowa County, died Sept. 4 at Wallowa Memorial Hospital in Enterprise. A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bollman Funeral Home, 315 W. Main St. in Enterprise.
Burial will be at Lostine Cemetery. A gathering for family and friends will follow at Lostine Tavern.
He was born Nov. 18, 1915, to Paul and Evelyn Hyde Bartmess in Metropolis, Nev. Bart had four sisters: Wanda Evans, Mildred Lively, Vernie Southwick and Bernice Milligan.
He married Winifred Maxwell Oct. 19, 1935.
He married Joy Fine Winters Aug. 17, 1951.
Bart farmed in the Lostine area for many years and later was a janitor at Wallowa schools.
After retiring, he and Joy enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and summers in Wallowa County.
The last few years, Bart lived in the Alpine House in Joseph.
He is survived by son, Dale Stewart of Hurricane, Utah; daughter, Dianna May Snodderly of Lodi, Calif.; three stepdaughters: Verna Rhodes of Enterprise, Corliss Boner of Enterprise and Linda LaRue of Ione; 25 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy; and son, Don Leroy; and stepsons, Gary Winters and Gorden "Butch" Winters.
