Betty Drummond of La Grande died Saturday, March 9, 2024 in Boise at the age of 92.
A service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Daniels-Knopp Chapel, 1502 7th Street, La Grande. Committal and vault interment will follow at the Grandview Cemetery. Please join the family with a gathering at The Barrel Room, 10105 Island Avenue after the internment.
Betty June was born on June 17, 1931 in Walla Walla, Washington, one of three children of Harold Maxwell "Max" and June (Gemmel) Seebeck. Betty was raised and educated in Walla Walla, Spokane, and Yakima before the family moved to La Grande where she graduated from La Grande High School with the class of 1949. On August 28, 1950 she was married to the love of her life, an Army Soldier, Coulston "Wayne" Drummond in La Grande. They lived in San Louis Obispo, California and South Carolina before returning to La Grande where they settled and raised their family.
As a young girl Betty wanted to be a nurse and consequently, she volunteered in a hospital as an aid, at that time they were called "candy stripers", for four years before her marriage. After returning to La Grande she began her career with U.S. Bank in 1953 and continued until retiring as a loan officer in 1990.
Betty was a longtime member of the Beta Theta ESA Sorority. Betty loved her home, the Grande Ronde Valley, fishing, hunting, reading, gardening, dancing and she especially loved her family.
Surviving relatives include her daughter, Kathy Drummond of La Grande, her grandchildren, Joshua Drummond and his wife, Nami, Jarod Drummond and his wife, Shannon, Scarlett Gross and her husband, Joshua, several great grandchildren; her brother Frank Seebeck of Spokane, sister Judith Mahoney of Redmond, Washington, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Mark Wayne Drummond in 1998 and her husband Couslton "Wayne" Drummond in 2008.
Contributions in memory of Betty Drummond may be made to the Cook Memorial Library in La Grande.
