Clifford Raymond Woodell, age 85, of La Grande, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at his home.
A celebration of his life will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, at Daniels-Knopp Funeral & Cremation Center. Committal and interment will follow at the Island City Cemetery. Viewing hours will be Friday from 4pm to 6pm at Daniels-Knopp.
Cliff was born on February 17, 1929, the son of John I. and Jessie Christine (Murchison) Woodell in La Grande. He graduated from La Grande High School with the class of 1947. On April 17, 1949 he married Myrna Bruins in La Grande. Cliff drove truck for Portland-Pendleton Sites Freight Line before buying a service station where Commercial Tire is currently located. He also had a quick delivery service and ambulance service. He later purchased the old truck stop and raised hay, horses and cattle. Later he worked for Hand Ford while Myrna operated the Fountain Cafe. Cliff then worked for Union Pacific railroad before working for Tamarack Ford. He later worked in sales for Coast to Coast and most recently D&B Supply until illness forced his retirement.
Cliff played in a western band, playing guitar and singing. He played at country dances and night clubs for 24 years. He was also a race car driver, loved horses and roping at the Mavericks Club.
Survivors include his wife, Myrna of La Grande; son Doug Woodell of La Grande; sister, Bette Puckett of Cove and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Shirley Hoadley, Cleo Hudson, Cora Mae Denton, Delora 'Lee' German and Irvin Woodell.
