Dennis Louis Hohstadt was born on September 15, 1946 at Ontario, Oregon, one of four children born to Louis Alvin and Vera (Ivy) Hohstadt. When he was 5 years old the family moved to Imbler which he called home for the remainder of his life. After graduating from Imbler High School with the class of 1964 he attended Oregon Technical College, (now OIT) where he received his machinist certification. Before he could graduate with his classmates he was drafted into the U.S. Navy where he served aboard a destroyer tender ship off the coast of Vietnam.

On July 28, 1968 he was married to Rebecca Horn in Summerville. They purchased a portion of the family farm which is where they made their home. Dennis began working as a machinist/millwright, later as a machinist until retiring from Boise Cascade Particle Board Plant.

Dennis had been a member of the Grande Ronde Muzzle Loaders. He enjoyed wood working and built furniture and cabinets for his family and others. He was also a gunsmith but mostly he enjoyed metal working.
