Donald George Buerkel

Donald George Buerkel, age 72, of North Powder, died January 13, 2014 at his home. At this time no public services will be held. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center.

Donald was born on April 11, 1941, the son of George and Marian (Zoellner) Buerkel in Saginaw, Michigan. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Education and taught in schools in San Francisco until his retirement. He then ran a shrimp boat business for a year before moving to North Powder in 1992 to farm and ranch. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking and was a talented potter. On October 10, 2010 he married Young Sin. They attended St. Peter's Episcopal Church and Zion Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Young of North Powder; sons, Steven Grogg of Mollala, Oregon and James Groff of Clackamas, Oregon; sisters, Pat and Barbara both of Saginaw, Michigan; and other relatives and friends.
