Donald Vincent Janes

Donald Vincent Janes was born on June 20, 1950 in Portland, one of four children of Edwin "Glade" and Arline Naomi (Schild) Janes.

He was raised on the family dairy farm and schooled in Tillamook, graduating with the high school class of 1968. He then attended Oregon State University where he earned a bachelor's degree. Don, as he was best known began a career in law enforcement in Reedsport, where he met his future wife. In 1974 he was married to Meredith "Sue" Boggs. They made their home in Reedsport until returning to Tillamook where he worked on the family dairy farm until it was sold and he returned to law enforcement until they moved to Salem. In Salem he worked as a handyman "Jack of all trades" before retiring to La Grande in 2004. In La Grande he continued his handyman work for several years.

Don was a member of the Sonrise Community Church in La Grande. He enjoyed shooting and fishing. He handmade jewelry which he sold along with belts and belt buckles at fairs and other such events.

Relatives who remain are his wife of 51 years, Sue Janes of La Grande; children & spouses, Crystal & Douglas Lauritsen of Portland, Adam Janes of Othello, Washington, Melanie & Kyle Jentzsch of Stayton; grandchildren, Addison, Phoenix, Trooper Janes, and Kenzi, Tyler, Jayden and Kailee Jentzsch; siblings, Ken Janes of Portland, Kathy Bingenheimer of La Grande, Adolf Janes of Idaho Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Daniels-Knopp Chapel, 1502 7th Street, La Grande.
