Frankie Leora Nice, 88, a lifelong resident of North Powder and La Grande, died Jan. 6 at her daughter's home in College Place, Wash. A graveside service will begin at
1 p.m. Monday at North Powder Cemetery. A reception will follow. A viewing for family and friends will run from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Loveland Funeral Chapel.
Leora was born in North Powder to Frank and Georgia (Knowlton) Hobbs. She was raised in North Power and graduated from North Powder High School.
On Sept. 4, 1941, Leora married Paul Nice in Weiser, Idaho, while he was on leave from the Army Air Corp. They recently shared their 69th wedding anniversary before Paul died Dec. 6, 2010.
Leora was a homemaker. Paul and Leora did everything together. She loved visiting with relatives and friends which included some lifetime friends made during World War II.
She enjoyed RVing, snow-mobiling and traveling. Her favorite travels included trips to Indiana to visit her daughter Marlene and family, and trips to the Oregon Coast. They rarely missed a key family event including most of the grandchildren's athletic contests.
Leora was a member of the Catholic church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Eagles Ladies Auxiliary. She cherished her volunteer work supporting the men and women of the armed forces and the Catholic church's fair booth.
Leora is survived by her daughter and son-in law, Cathleen and Richard Cook of College Place; son and daughter in-law, Larry and Claudine Nice of La Grande; several grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Leora was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her parents; daughter, Marlene Pursley; brothers, Raymond, Eldon, Floyd and Kenneth Hobbs; sister, Alene Willis; granddaughter, Christine Pursley; and great-grandson, Zachary Cook.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Walla Walla Community Hospice or any charity in care of Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1505 Fourth St., La Grande 97850.
