James Lawrence Holloway

James Lawrence Holloway was born on April 10, 1957 in Portland, the only son of James Larry and Lenora May (Rathke) Holloway.

When he was young the family moved to La Grande where he was raised and educated.  After high school he entered the U.S. Navy where he served aboard ship off the coast of Vietnam.  After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy he earned a degree from the Idaho Technical Trade School in electrical engineering.  He then became a copier repair technician for the Canon company and lived in Boise, Moscow, White Salmon, and Vancouver.  He returned to La Grande and joined his parents in Standard Office Equipment which he later purchased from them.  After closing the office supply business he became a specialty contractor working for himself until his retirement.

Jim, as he was best known, was a private pilot and was instrumental in forming the Experimental Aircraft Association chapter 1575 in Union County.  He was a member and past president of the Grande Ronde Bush Pilots.  He was a member of the Sunrise Rotary Club and a merit badge councilor for the Boy Scouts.  He coached baseball, softball and soccer.  He and his wife have been instrumental in the leadership and coordinating outdoor activities for the girl scouts. He also enjoyed scuba diving and sky diving and was a driver of antique fire trucks and cars in parades, the most recent restoration project was a Model T 1924 Depot Hack .  In the 35 years he hunted he managed to bring home an animal consistently every year.  What he really loved was fishing.

Relatives who remain are his wife of nearly 33 years Darci of La Grande; children, Kathy Peters and Tammy Jones, both of Walla Walla, James Holloway of Spokane valley, Mike Holloway of Warrenton, Charles Andrew Bloom of Corvalis, Sara Ramos of Albany, Daniel Holloway of La Grande; 13 grandchildren, several great grandchildren; a sister Jerra Woods of Prineville.

He was preceded in death by a sister Penny and his parents.

Jim passed away peaceful Friday, July 24, 2026 at his home south of La Grande surrounded by family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center on Gekeler Lane.
