Judith Beatrice Ramey Harsin was born on March 20, 1940, to Juanita (Stockhoff) and Pete Ramey. She was born at home on the family dairy in the Willamette Valley near Monmouth. Her Grandad Stockhoff and her Dad helped deliver her into this world. Judi and her family moved to the Starky Ranch in Eastern Oregon to join her Grandma and Grandad Stockhoff in 1942. From there they moved to the farm on Booth Lane and Judi has lived her entire life in that big old beautiful farm house, except for the time she joined her husband Ron when he served in the Coast Guard.
Judy attended Central Grade School and La Grande High School. She married Ron Harsin on June 7th, 1964. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this past June. They had two sons, Steven Ramey Harsin, born in 1966 and Peter Ramey Harsin, born in 1969.
Judi loved to ride horses and she founded the Rim Rock 4-H horse club, of which her sons were members. She was a member of the Mavericks and was the Court Mom for the Blue Mountain Rodeo for many years. She was also the District Commissioner for the US Pony Club.
Judi was a long-standing member of the Presbyterian Church where she attended Bible Study for many years with her Aunt Margie Stockhoff. Judi loved collecting antiques and decorating her home for all the holidays, especially Christmas, bringing to life a beautiful village scene on the grand piano, two Christmas trees and lighted garlands throughout her home, and Christmas cards hung on the wall from her many friends and family. Guests were always welcomed and always sent home with a plate full of cookies and candy from the “candy table”, a labor of love for both she and Ron. Judi was a wonderful cook and baker, her potato salad, fried chicken and huckleberry pies (or any kind of pie!) were the best in Union County and if you were lucky, you know what we’re talking about!
The true joy of her life was her husband Ron, their two boys and her many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents Pete and Juanita (Stockhoff) Ramey; her son, Steven Ramey Harsin; her nephew, Varney Gene Bolen and her great niece, Kailee Gean Bolen. She is survived by her husband Ronald Ferrin Harsin, her son Peter Ramey Harsin and his wife Carey, her sister, Sharon A. Ramey Bolen, her nieces Pamela M. Bolen, Fallie E. (Bolen) Calder and her husband Bill and Susan B. Hughes, a nephew Michael R. Bolen and his wife Connie. Judi had nineteen great nieces and nephews and fourteen great, great nieces and nephews. Judi is also survived by Alex and Olga Houtz and their son Victor Harsin Houtz, and many special and beautiful friends.
Judi passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at the home she loved on the farm on Booth Lane. She was 85 years of age.
