M. Joan Atwood

September 23, 1926 — September 27, 2014

Joan Atwood, age 88, of La Grande, died September 27, 2014 at her home. Viewing will be held on Sunday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m.
at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande. A service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center.



Mrs. Atwood was born on September 23, 1926, the daughter of Samuel S. and Martha M. (Koester) Rossiter in Ridgefield, Washington. On September 26, 1945, she married John Raymond Atwood in Deer Park, Washington. They lived in Colville, and after the end of WWII, she volunteered as a plane spotter in Colville. In 1957, they moved to Yakima. In 1964, they moved to La Grande. She was a devoted wife and mother and when her children left home, she began babysitting for others as she loved little children. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, especially her roses, Bingo and camping. She was a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and she attended Calvary Chapel Church.



Survivors include her children, Diane Harrison of La Grande, and John and Gail Atwood of Island City; grandchildren, Kyle Atwood, Rob Harrison and Terri Harrison-Perry; great grandchildren, Anton Shaw, Kimberly Rachau, Cassidy Harrison-Perry and Annalina Harrison-Perry; sister, Helen Heritage of Bonners Ferry, Idaho and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband on December 28, 2008 and brothers, Ralph, Glen and Bruce Rossiter.
