Robert Earl Pointer

Robert Earl Pointer, age 89, of Island City, died January 20, 2014 in Wallowa. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summerville Cemetery Chapel. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center.

Robert was born on December 10, 1924, the son of Robert Edward and Dovey (Rymer) Pointer in Ontario, Oregon. The family lived in Sumpter until moving to Summerville when he was a young child. He was educated at the Dry Creek School. On June 30, 1945 he married Wanda Sanderson in Baker City. He worked as a mill worker for Boise Cascade until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of Kingdom's Hall Jehovah's Witnesses in La Grande. He loved gardening and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his children, Bev and Dan DeLashmutt of La Grande, Melvin and Jan Pointer of La Grande, Chuck and Susie Anderson of Elgin; daughter-in-law, Alana Pointer of La Grande; ten grandchildren; several great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Pointer; son, Adrin Pointer and sisters, Dorothy Maddox and Lela Transue.
