Rodney Ralph Terry was born on May 16, 1950 at Elgin, the last of five children born to Clifford and Pauline (Stuart) Terry.  He began grade school in Elgin before moving to Missoula, Montana where he finished his education, graduating with the class of 1968.  He began his lifelong logging career in Montana before returning to Elgin where he continued logging and ranching.

On February 2, 1996 he was married to Emelda Tan Loberas in the Philippines.  They made their home near Elgin where they lived until his death.

Rod, as he was best known, attended the Harvesters Church of the Nazarene.  He also belonged to the Oregon Cattleman's Association.   He loved the timber and logging and ranching and running cows.  He and his family always had a booth at the La Grande Farmer's Market where they sold fresh garden produce.  In his younger years he enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and hiking.  He was a craftsman and enjoyed woodworking.  He liked to read, especially Louis L'Amour westerns and most recently Bill O'Reilly's "Killing Patton".

Relatives who remain are his wife of thirty years, Emelda Terry, sons, Dustin and Kenneth Terry, and grandson Connor Clifford Terry, all of Elgin; siblings, Steven Terry of Baker City, Elaine Calame of Pendleton and Paul Terry of Wyoming.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Edith Whinssenand.

Rod passed away suddenly, Saturday, January 31, 2026 at the Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande.

A funeral service will be held on Friday February 13, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Harvester's Church of the Nazarene in Elgin.  Committal and vault interment will follow at the Elgin Cemetery. Lunch follow at Harvester's Church of Nazarene Bryan’s Center 1120 Birch St. Elgin
