Shirley Alexander of Union went home to be with Jesus on Friday, June 16, 2023, at the age of 80.
A service will be held Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 09:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Union. Private interment was completed at the Cove Cemetery.
Shirley was born on June 26, 1942, in Ewing, Nebraska, one of three daughters born to, Ivan and LuElla (Mooney) Buck. When she was still a child the family moved to La Grande for a few years before settling in Union where Shirley was raised and educated, graduating with the class of 1960.
On November 6, 1964, she married Ray Alexander in La Grande. Together they had two children and enjoyed nearly 20 years together before Ray’s death on October 1, 1984.
Shirley spent her life as a homemaker/mother with much of her time being spent as a devoted member and tireless volunteer at the Union Baptist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher, leader of both the Awana Club and Vacation Bible School. She supported many missionaries over the years.
Surviving family members include her children and their spouses, Stacey & Rob Dixon, Jeffery & Ruth Alexander, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, both biological and adopted, two sisters Betty Scott of Yuma, Arizona, Judy and Don Kenison of Hermiston.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Tom Scott.
