Theodore "Ted" Anderson

Ted Anderson, 94, of Stayton, OR passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025.

Born on Feb. 2, 1931 in North Platte, NE to Verda (Lindbergh) Anderson and Charles Anderson, Ted moved to La Grande with his parents and sister in 1948. A 1949 graduate of La Grande High School, he attended Eastern Oregon State College before graduating from Washington State University with an Electrical Engineering degree in 1954. He married Betty Stoneking on May 28, 1954 and they moved to Moorestown, NJ where he worked in the Missile and Surface Radar Division of RCA for 38 years. Notable projects included equipment for the Apollo moon landing, the Viking Mars Lander, Skylab and numerous defense contracts. Ted also earned a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University and a New Jersey Professional Engineering License.

Upon retiring in 1992 Ted and Betty moved to Turner, Oregon where they built their dream home. There was finally more time for Ted to enjoy his lifelong hobbies of fishing, camping, woodworking, painting and music. A member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Salem, Ted used his considerable woodworking talent to build custom bookcases for the new church library.

Ted is survived by his sister Arlene Young of La Grande, OR, his daughters Linda Smith (Doug) of Sisters, OR, grandsons Mike and Jeff (Amanda) and great-granddaughters Eve and Sienna, Christine Stouder (Randy) of Grand Junction, CO and grandchildren Josh and Jessica, and Kathy Johnson (Travis) of Katy, TX and granddaughter Carly. Ted is preceded in death by Betty.

A graveside service will be held at Grandview Cemetery in La Grande on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
