His early years were spent growing up in logging camps then attended high school in Wallowa, Oregon graduating in 1951. He went on to receive his associate's degree in civil engineering at OTI in 1953. After college he lived in La Grande, driving his own logging truck for Williams Logging Co. until the 1960's when he used his degree from OTI to do road designs for the Forest Service in La Grande and Baker City, Oregon and Juneau and Sitka, Alaska. He loved working his tree farm up on Robbs Hill just outside of La Grande in the summers, planting and trimming trees. Picking huckleberries and hunting for mushrooms was a favorite pastime. After retiring from the forest service, he would take his RV to Arizona for the winter, having fun with his Razor on the many trails. He enjoyed dancing and was part of square-dancing clubs in both Oregon and Arizona. He spent his last 10 years full time in Arizona.
A graveside service will be held at Island City Cemetery on August 2, 2025, at 10:00am with a gathering afterwards to celebrate his life.
